The figure shows a sprinkler pulled by the same feed tube. The way to operate is as follows: a trolley is positioned by means of a tractor in the farthest point, with the hose unrolled from the reel, in turn positioned near the feed line from which it draws water by means of a hydrant. The sprinkler is started and at the same time “recalled” towards the reel which, by rotating, rolls up the hose again. The feeder-hauling hose is mounted, in certain models, on the same trolley as the sprinkler and the whole is self-towing towards a fixed point anchored to the power supply.
In any case, the tube is subjected to considerable stresses since it is rolled up when it is under pressure and constitutes the most delicate and expensive element of the machine. Despite the undoubted advantages, the limits of the trailed sprinklers basically regard the swing effect and the high intensity, subject to the degree of uniformity that is not always satisfactory.
