Simple case of a system consisting of a single rectangular sector with a 3% slope. The automatic calculation determines a pressure of 1.38 bar (20 PSI) and a flow rate of 12 m3/h (44 gpm) at the source. The result of the hydraulic simulation shows areas of the system with unacceptable uniformity and a coefficient (Keller and Karmeli) equal to 91.35%. This case demonstrates how a coefficient greater than 90% does not correspond to an acceptable variation in the flow rates delivered.

Sesto: 1,2×0,7 m (3,9×2,3 ft)
Extension: 34 Ha / 84 Ac
Calculation: pressione fissata

Example of a group of greenhouses fed with a pressure set at 3.2 bar (46 PSI). By acting on the only valve present, it is possible to supply 6 or 12 sectors. This project demonstrates with simplicity how the use of equal blocks (i.e. made up of the same number of elements and characteristics) shows a variation in hydraulic quantities when moving from one part of the system to another: using the same scheme can lead to different and unacceptable results.
Each greenhouse added will show different results than other greenhouses, and pre-existing greenhouses will show a variation from their condition prior to the addition of the greenhouse.

Project of a vineyard system on 1:10,000 cartography with manually drawn contour lines and automatically processed slopes. The source delivers a flow rate of 40 m3/h (146.7 gpm) at a pressure of 1.4 bar (20 PSI). To lighten the design and maintain high reliability of the results of the hydraulic calculation, an average discretization was used (grouping of 4 regulators at each supply point). At the end of the hydraulic calculation it is possible to observe a variation in the flow rates delivered from 3.9 l/h to 3.0 l/h (24%) and a variation in pressure from 1.5 bar to 0.9 bar with the maximum loss of load of 4.0 m (13 ft). The uniformity coefficient is 82.3%, not acceptable. It is likely that a division into more sectors (and therefore more shifts) could improve results and uniformity.

Typology: dropwise
Flow rate : 4 L/h (0.88 gph) Sesto : 2×6 m (6.6×19.7 ft)
Extension : 4.7 Ha / 11.6 Ac
Calculation : with pump 3.7 m3/h

Arboretum system consisting of 4 sectors, powered by a pump whose characteristic curve is known, with 1 sector operating for each shift. The project was developed on a 3D survey processed by the Google Maps service (IrriPro’s internal console) which shows an average slope of 3% in the direction of the supply wings. The drip dispensers are self-compensating and allow conditions of excellent uniformity (around 99%). Thanks to the hydraulic calculation for each shift it is possible to evaluate the relative operating point equal to approximately 3.7 m3/h (13.6 gpm) at a pressure of 2.5 bar (36 PSI) by cross-referencing the pump data (flow rate graph -head) with those of the system (flow-pressure graph).

Flow rate : 600 L/h (132 gph)
Range : 6 m (19.7 ft)
Sixth : 6×6 m ( 19.7 x19.7 ft)
Extension : 6.4 Ha / 11.6 Ac
Calculation: automatico

Arboretum system divided into 6 shifts (with one sector per shift) with sprinklers and rectangular distribution. The devices have a coverage angle of 360° inside the ground and an angle of 180° for the perimeter ones. The automatic calculation determines a pressure of 1.8 bar (26 PSI) at the source and a variable flow rate per shift between 123 and 191 m3/h (451-700 gpm).
The result of the hydraulic simulation shows an unacceptable uniformity coefficient (WU) of 84% and an efficiency of 40%. Low efficiency also demonstrated by the variation in flow rate from 290 to 626 L/h per sprinkler (64-138 gpm).

The coffee plant project was developed on a 3D survey processed by the Google Maps service over a total area of approximately 30 Ha (74 Ac). The system is divided into 6 shifts, with sprinklers and rectangular distribution. The internal ground and perimeter luminaires both have a 360° coverage angle but belong to two different models. The automatic calculation determines at the source a variable pressure per shift from 4.56 bar (66.14 PSI) to 6.87 bar (99.64 PSI) and a variable flow rate per shift between 120.08 and 153.63 m3/h (439.94-563.23 gpm).
The hydraulic simulation result shows an acceptable uniformity coefficient (WU) above 90%.

No. of dispensers : 45,000
Typology: dropwise
Flow rate : 1.3 L/h (0.3 gph)
Sixth : 1.5×0.3 m (4.9×0.98 ft)
Extension : 25 Ha / 62 Ac
Calculation: pressione fissata

System serving a field cultivated with tomatoes with an extension of 25 Ha (62 Ac). The project uses a high discretization (12 dispensers per group) in order to process the results more quickly. The pressure available at the source is not sufficient to reach all the sectors (in particular the 6 sectors furthest from the source).
The use of self-compensating dispensers will probably resolve the lack of uniformity. In the image of the material list the number of coils of the main pipe, of the drip line and all the other elements that make up the system.

No. of dispensers : 60,000
Typology: dropwise
Flow rate : 4 L/h (0.88 gph)
Sixth : 1×2.3 m (3.3×7.5 ft)
Extension : 75 Ha / 185 Ac
Calculation: pressione fissata

Example of a project on a large extension. The survey involved a total area greater than 4000 Ha / 9884 Ac (with a side of 6400 m / 21000 ft). The level curves show elevations and slopes, including the shores of the lake in the north-east area. The surface to be irrigated was obtained by subdividing the affected area with 75 sectors of the same size (1 Ha / 2.47 Ac each) each fed by a flow rate of approximately 35 m3/h (128 gpm). The result of the hydraulic simulation shows the variation in uniformity between one sector and the adjacent one: in this case the designer will have to carry out further interventions such as modifying the diameters, using self-compensating regulators or pressure regulators. To simplify the design and calculation, an average discretization was used.
